I. COMPLETE THE CROSSWORD PUZZLE.
I. NOW FILL IN THE GAPS AS YOU LISTEN TO THE SONG.
I let it fall, my 1._________ / hɑː(r)t /
And as it fell, you rose to claim it
It was dark and I was 2._________ /ˈəʊvə(r) /
Until you kissed my lips and you saved me
My hands, they're strong
But my knees were far too 3._________ / wiːk /
To stand in your arms
Without falling to your 4.__________ / fiːt /
But there's a side to you that I never knew, never 5._________ / njuː /
All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true
And the games you play, you would always win, always win
But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your 6._________ / feɪs /
Let it burn while I cry
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name
When laying with you
I could stay there, close my 7._________ / aɪs /
Feel you here, forever
You and me together, nothing is better
'Cause there's a side to you that I never knew, never knew
All the things you'd say, they were never true, never true
And the games you'd play, you would always win, always 8.________ / wɪn /
But I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face
Let it burn while I cried
'Cause I heard it screaming out your name, your name
I set fire to the rain
And I threw us into the flames
Where I felt somethin' die, 'cause I knew 9. ________ / ðæt /
That was the last time, the last time
Sometimes I wake up by the 10. ________ / dɔː(r) /
Now that you've gone, must be waiting for you
Even now when it's already over
I can't help myself from looking for you
I set fire to the rain
Watched it pour as I touched your face

Great activity! That's to bad that we don't usually have the opportunity to teach our students the phonetic symbols. I think it helps a lot, I myself learned pronunciation like this. I'm looking forward to using it in a class.
ResponderExcluirHi there, I'm taking Oral Expression with Reinildes. I love this activity. Great song. Nervertheless, I don't which audience it is aimed at. Maybe letras students? If this is the case, I find it very useful.Keep up the good work!
ResponderExcluirHi Emerson!
ResponderExcluirI am Fernanda and I am taking the Advanced Oral Expression course with Renildes. I really liked this activity with Adele's song, first, because I think her songs and her voice are beautiful. Second, because I thought really interesting the use of phonetics transcription in this exercise, since it helps a lot in learning pronunciation.
Hi Emerson, I'm taking Oral Expression with Reinildes as well and I've decided to comment on this task. I like it, but I would like to use it with some students to see the outcome of that. Have you tried it in a classroom?

ResponderExcluirThis activity is great, crossword puzzles are a great way to learn english.
Your blog is really useful!
Hello Emerson, very good initiative of yours to make such an interesting blog. I am taking advanced oral expression classes with Reiniled in Letras at UFMG and she recommended this blog. I liked the exercise and the idea to use phonetic symbols to help learners. It can help a lot some teachers and also it helps anyone who wants to speak better.
ResponderExcluirGreat Job.
Hi Emerson,
ResponderExcluirthat's another great activity. We only know the importance of learning phonetic transcription when we actually learn it. It makes us aware of the words' real pronounciation. Adele really is a good singer for us to practice pronounciation! she sings in a clear way. Good job.
the crosswords are very good to beginners, I think, because we can make sure of the right word.
I'm taking Sonia's classes.
Thanks,
Lélia Chaves
